Introduction to Kognity
Kognity provides curriculum-aligned, digital ‘intelligent’ textbooks to hundreds of schools in over 115 countries. We allow students to learn faster and more effectively, and teachers to help students reach their goals. Our office is located in Stockholm but we work with authors, reviewers, illustrators and other freelancers spread around the world.
The NGSS project
We will be developing content for the Next Generation Science Standards.
This is a new, exciting venture for Kognity, and the NGSS project will be an iterative and collaborative process.
Duration of the Project - from September 2021 to March 2022
We are looking for advisory panel members and authors to join our Kognity NGSS team. We will be recruiting for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
Region: Initially, we will be developing content for California (using the California Framework) - with an eye to widening our offering to be relevant for other states too. We welcome applicants from outside of California. However, all contributors should have a good understanding of the Californian context and needs.
We are looking for experts with in-depth and confident knowledge of the NGSS - with extensive high school science teaching and curriculum design experience.
Ideally, they will have led professional development on the NGSS, coordinated science instruction at district/state level (E.g. they might be ‘TOSAs’), and/or participated in other educational resource projects.
Specifically, we are looking for the following roles to be part of the Advisory panel:
- Lead advisors will primarily ensure that we stay on track in developing an effective NGSS solution for the specific subject. They will check the content from an overarching perspective, including scientific/NGSS accuracy. Knowledge of evaluation criteria (e.g. The TIME tool) will be helpful.
- Specialist advisors will advise specifically on their areas of expertise:
- Assessment (question-writing for the NGSS)
- Earth Science integration
We are looking for authors with in-depth and confident knowledge of the NGSS in their subject area - with significant (and current) high school science teaching and curriculum design experience. Previous authoring experience is a bonus, as is a contribution to other NGSS education projects. The most important aspect is the willingness to come up with engaging and creative ideas for a diverse student population, and openness to peer feedback.
